You can not install aftermarket (third-party) brand wire wheels on the grinder because the hubs are not thick enough to allow you to secure the wheel with the retaining nut. Further, the hub on the Delta wire wheel allows the wire wheel to be centered within the protective guard on the grinder, preventing it from ripping itself apart on the inner sides of the protective cover. The Delta 8" grinder shaft is partially threaded. The Delta brand wire wheel has a specially made hub that makes it 1" thick, like the grinding wheels, allowing the wire wheel to be properly secured on the shaft.
